Our feet are put through the paces each and every single day.

Did you know, feet have more sweat glands than anywhere else in the body, with 250,000 sweat glands.

So, it’s inevitable to have sweaty feet from time to time!

However, excessive sweating can lead to other health issues, such as foot odor, athlete's foot and toenail fungus, which you will want to avoid from happening through proper foot care.

Fortunately for you, here are 6 ways you can take care of sweaty feet at home.

1. Wash Your Feet

As obvious as it sounds, if you’re suffering from sweaty feet, the first step is to wash them daily.

Doing so, rinses away sweat and bacteria as well as cooling the skin down to prevent further sweating.

When washing, the process should involve warm water, soap and some scrubbing, and every so often, a bristle brush can be used to get rid of any dead skin.

Once washed, dry thoroughly, especially between the toes and then apply antifungal powder available over-the-counter.

Simply, washing your feet regularly will keep them clean (duh!), but also prevent irritation tht can contribute to calluses, as well as protecting them against any fungal infections.

2. Soak Feet In Black Tea

Sounds bizarre right?

But, black tea is actually an effective way to stop sweating.

Simply, soak your feet in a basin of warm water with two black tea bags, for 30 minutes a day.

Essentially, the tannic acid in the tea kills off any bacteria and closes the pores, which helps to keep your feet dry longer, in turn reducing sweating.

3. Carry Spare Socks

If you suffer from sweaty feet regularly, it’s a good idea to carry spare socks around with you.

Note, this doesn’t mean thick, fur-lined socks (obviously!)

Also, you want to avoid cotton.

So, the best socks are moisture-wicking and breathable materials, such as bamboo.

To put it simply, the type of material, style and thickness of socks will make a difference; too thick, and it will stop the sweat from evaporating and instead, stick to the material that is pressed against your feet.

4. Change Shoes

Of course, hot weather will cause sweaty feet.

And so, it’s important to change your shoes to a cooler, lightweight pair during summer months.

Furthermore, avoid wearing the same pair of shoes over consecutive days.

Doing so, allows your shoes to completely dry out in between wears; if you wear them before they’re properly dry, this will allow the fungus that causes sweat to thrive.

5. Apply Rubbing Alcohol

Let’s say you’re looking for a quick solution, rubbing alcohol may do the trick!

Simply, apply a small amount between your toes or the predominantly sweaty area.

Doing so will instantly dry your feet out and prevent odors

Keep in mind, not to do this regularly as it can result in skin irritation.

6. Iontophoresis

Iontophoresis is a technique that uses water to pass mild current through the skin of the feet and blocks the sweat temporarily coming out the glands.

And, is highly recommended by the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Consequently, this treatment needs to occur once a month in order to maintain the results.

However, a small study revealed 88% of participants reacted positively.

Conclusion

It’s extremely common to have sweaty feet every now and then.

And, the above methods should help you to prevent excessive sweating.
