For those women who work in the office, there’s one thing that’s an absolute must: having a pair of comfortable but smart shoes.

Not only do they need to feel good, but they need to look appropriate too.

Luckily, the office environment today is not as strict as it once was, which means the shoes you choose can be suitable for your dress code, look stylish and feel comfortable all at the same time.

However, when it comes to things like promotions, even if you have matching skill sets with your colleagues, you may be left behind if you’re wearing scuffed shoes.

Why?

Well, businesses may associate a negative attitude towards shoes with a negative attitude towards work.

With there being so many options for women’s shoes out there, here’s a guide on what shoes you can wear to work without compromising your personal style.

1. Kitten Heels

Kitten heels have a short and slender heel of up to 2 inches tall and they look great with knee length dresses or pencil skirts.

And it was Audrey Hepburn who made this fashionable in the 50s - if it was good for her, then it’s good for you!

Not being too tall, kitten heels make great work shoes; the heel is manageable plus there is no foot show which makes them great for formal settings.

2. Slingbacks

Whilst closed shoes are the norm in most offices, sometimes following too strict a dress code can make the company seem uptights.

However, slingbacks with closed-toe heels are a great staple in business-formal offices, and a strap around the ankle helps attach the shoes more securely to your feet, making them much more comfortable to last all day.

3. Block Heel Pumps

The classic pump is one of the most versatile shoes in any woman’s wardrobe and is the ideal work shoe.

These easy-to wear pumps can be worn to work with either dressier outfits or casual styles (from suits to skirts), and offer just enough height so that you don't feel uncomfortable all day long!

But, choose your colour wisely - black, nude, and grey colours will always look good paired up together, while other neutral tones like cream or white also make great choices for an office setting.

4. Stilettos

Stilettos are incredibly sexy and what better shoes to assert your power than a pair of high heels.

But before you slide into your stilettos and head to the office, make an honest assessment of your workplace culture, and only wear them if you feel strong, confident and they fit your personal style.

If you’re a heel lover, then the sky is your limit - just ensure they’re black, or even patent leather works particularly well in an office environment, especially when paired with trousers, shirt and a blazer.

5. Ballet Flats

For those who prefer to go without heels, a pair of black or brown ballet flats make an office outfit more versatile.

They can easily replace pumps while still looking stylish and appropriate for most environments with their simple design that doesn't compete against other elements in your personal style, which may be what you're going for if it's not too flashy anyway!

As well as offering fashion inspiration from classic movies such as "The Sound Of Music" (1965) there are various colourful patterns available nowadays, so we recommend taking some time out during this busy season before summer rolls around again.

The Bottom Line

Hopefully now you have a better idea of what shoes you can wear to the office.

Clearly, turning up in trainers is not really feasible for more corporate jobs but there is a happy medium.

From flats to heels, there are plenty of styles out there that will elevate your office attire without compromising on comfort.
