With the recent pandemic, the lines between work and home have been blurred and now, more and more people are rocking loungewear in their everyday lives.

With most of us spending more time at home, walking barefoot on hard floors can be detrimental to our foot’s health which is why supportive footwear is essential.

Introducing slippers - your new best friend!

Now you may be thinking of those fuzzy things on your neighbours feet as they fetch the post, however there’s so much more to it.

You may not have thought it, but there are different types of slippers that can be worn outdoors.

Keep in mind though, outdoor slippers need to have weather resistant, durable outsoles and upper materials that protect the shoe against the elements.

Here are 5 types of slippers you can wear outside.

1. Moccasin Slippers

Moccasin slippers are usually made out of soft leather or suede with stitching detail at the top.

Originally inspired by Native American footwear, these slippers are now a sophisticated shoe, with a shape similar to loafers.

Sometimes, they will be linked with faux sheepskin for added warmth and can be paired with both loungewear and street clothes.

Regarding outdoors, these slippers need to have a sturdy rubber sole with a patterned tread to make sure they hold up on different terrains like concrete, gravel, asphalt and more.

2. Clog Slippers

Clog slippers feature a closed front, slip-on design that covers a significant portion of the foot and allows the wearer to put them on with ease.

Generally speaking, clogs that have a rubber outsole and a minimum heel height of an inch are ideal for outdoor use.

For the simple reason that these features will allow you to carry on walking outside even if the ground is wet.

3. Mule Slippers

Mule slippers are a slip-on style with no back or constraint around the heel of your foot and have a closed toe design.

Historically, mule slippers date back to the 18th century and today are a perfect shoe to wear all year round.

Typically, they are designed with the same rubber outsoles as you’d see on regular street shoes.

4. Slide Slippers

Slides are a more sporty, casual slipper but offer both versatility and practicality.

In fact, the laid back design makes it the ideal slipper to wear anywhere at any time.

For instance, when hanging out by the pool, nipping to the shops or running errands, they always work.

More recently, wearing socks with slides have become a fashion trend with both men and women wearing this combo.

So don’t worry about making a fashion faux pas - socks and slides work, even designers like Gucci have been spotted sporting this trend on the runway.

The Bottom Line

All slippers have one common factor and that is to be comfortable.

So, regardless of the style you choose, they must fit properly, provide support and comfort, and be able to wear simply.
