The ladies in your life have it easy right?

Summer comes and all they have to do is throw on a dress and slip on some sandals.

For you, on the other hand, summer may bring frustrations over how to look good but also stay cool.

There was a time when going sockless with men's shoes was considered scandalous.

But in today's world, there are plenty of stylish guys who rock this look on a regular basis.

Liberation is the answer. The kind of freedom that exposes your ankles and calves to the elements while also allowing them to soak up the sun with you.

Even though more and more men are going sockless for summer, there are still some precautions to take or you’ll likely have a complete disaster on your hands!

If you're curious about how to style men's shoes without socks, then read on! In this article, we will provide you with some tips and advice on how to make this look work for you.

The Right Occasion

The conventional sockless appearance has an opportunity built in: on the deck of your spectacular Wolf of Wall Street yacht, you'll find boat shoes

If you haven't been there yet, fear not - the yacht can wait and the boat shoes may be worn elsewhere.

Anyways, boat shoes aren’t your only option for socklessess.

From Oxfords to loafers, your feet can feel free in all kinds of footwear.

Depending on the rest of the appearance, you may convey a relaxing and carefree image or a more sophisticated and daring one. In terms of clothing, most pieces will work – including denim, shorts and even lightweight summer suits – but it must be appropriate for the occasion.

As a rule of thumb, going sockless is a no-go with business attire and formal wear; otherwise, feel free to experiment.

The Right Shoes

Your shoes need to stand on their own if you don't have any socks to share the attention.

As a beginner, you can’t go wrong with a classic pair of loafers; it’s the easiest shoe to wear without socks, and they'll be good in many situations.

Basically, other slip-ons, like driving shoes and moccasins and low-cut trainers are also easy to wear sock-free. For something a little more fancy, try Oxfords or brogues.

Actually, you should try whatever you like - if you don't have any socks to show off, now is the time to be daring with your footwear (as long as it matches your overall look!).

Not Sure How to Style?

If you're not sure what to wear when you go sockless, jeans, trousers and shorts are all viable options, but the most popular is a slim-cut chino.

In general, you should avoid skinny  or elasticated cuffs, but it should sit about 2 inches above your shoe to expose the bottom of your ankle.

Any higher, and it may look like you're wearing capri pants - unless that's the vibe you're after!

Supporting Accessories

The biggest argument for wearing socks with shoes is because your feet sweat - and even more so in the summer.

This can be tough on your feet, and your shoes, so keep in mind that if you want to maintain continuous foot-to-shoe contact, some upkeep may be required.

Allow each pair to rest for 24-48 hours before wearing them again. But to avoid the unpleasantries that come with going sockless, try these accessories:

  • Invisible Socks: if you're wearing leather shoes and you've been barefoot all day, you'll definitely notice the moisture - not to mention the smell. If you're a fan of the sockless look but don't want the squelchy sensation that comes with it, try low-cut, invisible socks instead
  • Cedar Shoe Trees: pop these in after each wear and it will soak up the sweat and help prevent bacterial growth
  • Powder: some foot powders have a cooling effect on your feet and help to absorb moisture
  • Moleskin Patches: if you're finding certain spots of your feet rubbing against your shoes, place these patches where there is friction and this will help to avoid blisters
