Given that feet are one of the most used parts of our body, most of us will have some problems with our feet one way or another.
Statistically, almost half of these foot problems are caused by wearing the wrong shoe sizes; a quarter of which are caused by wearing loose shoes. But, this is not the limit of bad vs good shoes.
So, we thought of putting together a list of 3 problems that are preventable through wearing good shoes. But, first, let’s look at what good shoes are.
What are Good Shoes?
Good shoes must have the following 6 qualities:
- Flexibility: To allow the range of motions that you will go through
2.Arch Support: Because our feet are not usually straight
- Breathability: To allow vapours and heat to get out but keeping water out
- Shock Absorption: To keep your feet safe when impacted
- Cushioning: To provide a softer landing with every movement
- Thick Enough Soles: To maintain a safe distance from the ground when walking
Problems Prevented by Good Shoes
1. Flat Feet
Without the right arch support and sole sizes, you may end up with flat feet; generally an indicator of weakened foot muscles.
Further, such a flattening can end up misaligning your back, which can result in back pains, especially in the lower back region, and knee grinding.
A good pair of shoes will prevent your feet from flattening.
2. Plantar Fasciitis
If you excessively work on hard surfaces with limited flexibility, shock absorption, cushioning, and thick enough soles, you may end up with plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis is a condition where the tissues in the sole of your foot get thicker to compensate for the excessive work on hard surfaces.
Given that such an adaption of your foot is unnatural, you will feel quite excessive amounts of pain, especially during periods of rest, for instance early mornings.
A good pair of shoes with a slight heel will help to prevent you from this problem.
If your feet go through excessive friction, you can end up with corns. This excessive friction is generally due to wearing the wrong shoe sizes, both tighter and looser, as well as shoes that aren’t well cushioned with thick enough soles.
Simply, you need shoes that fit well, i.e. the pair can be slightly bigger than your foot, but make sure that your foot isn’t over rubbing with the material around.
