Tags - Tips For Taking Good Care of Sandals
Did you know…
Even though they are considered as “no fuss” footwear, they do require some maintenance to keep them looking fresh and smell free.
Here are 5 tips on how to take good care of sandals and to prevent damage.
1. Clean The Insole
Marks on the insole of your sandals can make them look worn out and dirty.
They often look like permanent footprints but with the right materials can be cleaned.
For instance, use an upholstery cleaning spray and a toothbrush to scrub the dirty area - when they begin to look clean use a soft cloth and rub.
2. Remove Odors
Typically, sandals are worn during hotter months, and so sweating is inevitable.
If odor is a problem, you can use a drop of tea tree oil and swab the inside overnight - it’s antibacterial properties will eliminate odors.
3. Use a Protection Spray
Using a protective spray, that’s waterproof, on your new sandals will prevent the surace from getting scuffed when exposed to rain and dirt outside.
Furthermore, protective sprays are particularly useful for materials such as suede or nubuck leather.
Lastly, by using a protection spray on your sandals, you can ensure the colour and durability of the shoes are prolonged.
4. Cleaning Suede
To protect suede, a spray like mentioned above is ideal.
However, should you not have one and your suede sandals are suffering, you can use rubbing alcohol and sandpaper to get rid of stains.
To use, dip a cotton ball into the alcohol and then lightly buff away with the sandpaper to remove the grime.
5. Cleaning Leather
Using white vinegar mixed with water will allow you to clean the leather parts of your sandals without damaging them.
Simply, mix the two parts and apply using a soft sponge - once cleaned let them air dry.
To add, you can always use a leather conditioner if you want to add that shine back.
Overall, the longevity of your sandals do depend on the material it’s made from.
With that said, we can take care of them to increase their lifespan with at home ingredients and protection sprays.
At the same time, you want to make sure your feet are clean and dry to prevent sweaty feet and odurs.
Lastly, a combination of these tips and maintenance will mean you get more time out of your sandals.
