Talent is just the beginning of a dancing career.

From there on, dancing requires endurance, versatility and strength.

In reality, professional stage dancers perform multiple times a week. Hence, countless number of practice hours and traveling goes into that.

In fact, it has been said that sometimes dancers train more than any professional athletes. And, as you can imagine, all this requires extra care, which is not always adhered to.

As a result, this behaviour in dancers; performing and rehearsing without proper rest for instance; leads to injuries. But, that is just the beginning of the issue.

For instance, research has found that dancing for more than 5 hours a day could cause stress fracture injuries. Sadly, performers can get so busy with their dancing routine, they do not give attention to wearing proper shoes, which can lead to added injuries.

In this blog, we will be looking at 6 dance injuries that can be connected with wearing improper shoes.

1. Ankle Sprains

Ankle Sprain occurs due to misalignment while dancing, improper landing and wearing improper shoes.

When it occurs, the foot ligaments either get torn or twisted.

Sadly, torn Ligaments never go back to their previous condition, Therefore it is important to be conscious about it while dancing.

2. Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles Tendonitis is the swelling of the tendon placed behind the ankle.

It mainly occurs due to practising pointing the foot or relevé without professional training or proper shoes.

3. Trigger Toes

Similar to Achilles Tendonitis, Trigger Toes causes muscle injury (under the foot or along with ankle) during pointing the foot or relevé.

4. Ankle Impingement

Ankle impingement occurs due to shock on tissues around the ankle either at anterior or posterior region.

5. Metatarsals Stress Fracture (Metatarsalgia)

Metatarsals fracture occurs when the bone connecting the toes and ankle fractures.

In particular, it occurs due to stress, arthritis, or, again, wearing improper footwear.

6. Sesamoid Stress Fracture

Sesamoid fracture occurs when the bone (pea shaped bone) in the ball of the foot (below the big toe) breaks.

Specifically, it happens as a result of a fall or repetitive stress on the foot.

Apart from above injuries, dancers are more likely to develop arthritis in the long run.

So you have to be careful/mindful while dancing and rehearsing.
