Summer, consolidation of heat and sun can take a toll on your feet if it is not taken care of.

Here’s how you can take better care of your feet during the summer months.

Ways To Keep Your Feet Healthy During Warm Weather:

1. Footwear

Avoid walking barefoot.

In particular, going out barefoot in summer would increase the chance of getting viral and fungus infections on your foot.

Similarly, refrain from wearing closed shoes in warm weather.

Instead, wear open-toed shoes or sandals as this would let the feet get some air and avoid sweat or dry feet. But, avoid walking long distances in flip flops.

Further, if the shoes or socks get wet, do not wear them till they dry, as it would lead to fungus growth.

Closely, avoid torn out shoes as it would give blisters

Correspondingly, wear appropriate shoes according to the occasion (for example sports, long walks, picnics etc).

Shoes, especially summer footwears such as sandals with no cushion could hurt your feet and give back pain in the long term. So, wear cushioned footwear.

2. Wear Appropriate Socks

In summer, wear cotton socks and avoid synthetic socks which would hold heat and lead to fungus growth.

In fact, it is best to have separate socks for summer and winter.

Further, we recommend wearing cotton socks in summer and not in winter and likewise, wear wool socks in winter but not in summer.

Similarly, wear clean socks, do not re-wear them.

3. Avoiding Blisters

Wearing sandals, especially for longer times, causes blisters.

So, if you sense a blister is forming, wear padding, such as a bandage, to curtail friction.

4. Hydration

Drink enough water to keep hydrated, increase the blood flow and reduce the inflammation/swelling due to heat.

5. Sunscreen & Moisturiser

Make sure to apply sunscreen even on the feet, including the sole. We recommended sunscreen with 15 SPF (Sun Protection Factor) or above to protect the skin.

This is especially important when you wear sandals or open toed shoes, since you don't wear socks then

Similarly, apply moisturiser at least twice a day.

6. Toe Nail Maintenance

Cut the long grown nails and remove the Nail polish often as it is unhealthy if it's been left on for too long. Simply, let the nail breath.
